Here are some of the most common questions that I encounter:
Why should I use a personal trainer?
Having a trainer takes the guesswork out of exercise and diet and ensures that you will reach your goals safely and effectively in the shortest possible time. Constant monitoring and adjusting of your program, as well as providing supervision and motivation, leads to attaining your goals safely and much more quickly. What does a personal trainer actually do?
Well, that depends on the personal trainer. Whereas other trainers may copy routines from the internet or books, I actually CREATE the programs myself using tried and true exercises that get FAST results. They are based on your goals, health concerns, experience, limitations, and lifestyle. They are not “one size fits all”. I teach you exactly how to do everything you need to do. Your safety is my number one concern and therefore, I emphasize proper form and technique so that you do not get injured. What can I expect during the initial consultation and training session?
The consultation gives me the opportunity to get to know you and discuss your goals and concerns. It also gives me the chance to explain how I work and what I can offer. Your first training session will consist of taking measurements (unless you are opposed to this) and fitness testing (don’t worry, it is not strenuous) to determine your current fitness level. Fitness testing provides a starting point for your program, as well as a way to measure progress toward your goals. Then we will perform a brief workout. What does a normal training session consist of?
Every individual's training sessions are different based upon their goals, but most hour-long sessions consist of a 5-10 minute warm-up, and 45-50 minutes of resistance training, followed by a cool down and stretching period. I also feel it is important to stretch as we are performing the exercises. Depending on the individual's goals, a cardio regimen may also be followed. What kind of results should I expect working with you?
It really depends on how much effort you put into your training program, but most of my clients start seeing results in as little as TWO WEEKS! It is important to remember that you may only be in the gym with me 1-3 hours per week, so the important part of the equation is what you choose to do when you're NOT with me. Of course, the closer you follow the training and nutrition plan developed for you the better results you will have. How often should I train with you?
This is up to you. I have some clients that start out training 3 times a week, and go down to just one after they feel confident enough to train on their own. I have others that just want a basic grasp of how to work out and only meet with me a few times. Some clients have been training with me for years, a few times a week to keep them motivated and get the best results. It really depends on what you want as an individual, how quickly you want to see results, how much motivation you have to exercise on your own, and your budget. How often do you change the training program?
I constantly change your training program to keep your body guessing and to keep you from getting bored. As your body adapts, your program will progress to ensure that you keep making strides toward your goals.Do you offer diet advice?
Yes - Nutrition is as important as exercise when it comes to looking your best. My plan is a common-sense approach to weight loss and fat burning through “clean eating”. It is not a fad diet, but rather a healthier way of eating that you will (hopefully) follow for the rest of your life. For a more detailed description of the services that I offer, please see the “Nutrition” page. How are you different from a trainer at a large gym like Lifestyle’s, Bally's, LA Fitness, Shapes, or Curves?
First and foremost, I am independent. That means that I have no affiliation with any gym-I work for my clients only. Unfortunately, many corporate trainers do not have much experience, are over-worked and are paid bonuses based on the number of people that buy training sessions. They have no personal interest in you as a client, and you may not receive all of your training by the trainer you sign up with. They are under a lot of pressure to sell clients supplements and other things they may not need. Their job is to keep you coming in, whether you're making progress or not, and their workout routines are designed for the masses. I design each program and nutritional regimen from scratch, based on the individual's needs and current fitness level. What sets you apart from other trainers?
I actually “practice what I preach”. I exercise and maintain good eating habits myself. Being a mother of 3 active boys, I understand (first-hand), the challenges required when it comes to losing weight and getting in shape while raising a family. In addition, my personal experience dealing with childbirth (and getting back into shape afterwards), as well as changes brought on by mid-life, and injuries allow me to relate to my clients better.Unlike other trainers that are never available to discuss your concerns, you may contact me by phone, text, or e-mail should you have questions. This is MY business and I take it very seriously.
Where do you train your clients?
I provide training services in several convenient locations in the New Tampa area. Gym fees are not required. These are all fully-equipped facilities with the latest in exercise equipment including resistance machines, treadmills, elliptical machines, recumbent and upright bikes, stair steppers, free weights and more! Clean and spacious shower and changing facilities are also available. Why don’t I see results with my current exercise program?
There are many reasons why you may not be getting the results you desire. Some of the reasons could be that you need a change in your routine, you are working too hard or not hard enough, you are doing the exercises incorrectly, you are not doing the correct exercises, and the list goes on. Proper nutrition is as important as exercise when it comes to looking your best and you may be consuming too many or even TOO LITTLE calories, or eating the wrong kinds of foods. Why Should I Engage In Regular Exercise?
